Final day of 14-day Vegan Challenge with Kushite's Vegetable Cuisine

The man who counts the bits of food he swallows is never satisfied.
~African Proverb

The  14-day challenge has come to an end and i'm excited to give you a review of my journey. Shockingly, on my last day of this vegan challenge I was craving everything I thought I would have on day 1. I wanted some fish and Shrimp lol. I even passed a food shop and thought to myself  "dah fried chicken deh smell good". Anyway, I dont eat chicken and I have a strong enough mind to go through my 14th day without cheating.

I stared the day with a cup of red clover tea at home. I have a collection of herbs that I use to make tea and Red Clover is one of them.

Lunch ~ Okra & Tomato Stew

Vegan Challenge ~ Day 13

Day 13 wasn't very eventful. Kushite's was closed and so had a cup of tea in the morning, some Bean Curd and rice from a Chinese restaurant for lunch and i made myself a salad for dinner. To be honest,

Healthy Eating Vegan Challenge ~ Day 12

"Love food that loves you back"

It's Sunday February 2 and I decided to do brunch at home and prepare dinner at my parents. In the morning I had a cup of Moringa tea which I made from the leaves of my plant. With all the excitement around this plant I had to get in on it. Now I have a cup almost every morning.

When walking, walk. When eating, eat. ~  · Zen Proverb

Breakfast ~ Peanut Porridge

So I forgot that my favourite porridge spot in Marverly made ital! I rushed myself there for some peanut porridge made by a man called Juicy Blacks. It's not a fancy restaurant...just a little shop on the corner but he makes he best peanut porridge! If you go there on Sundays you can get it topped with peanuts, corn or molasses.

Lunch ~ Lentil stuffed sweet pepper cups with grilled pineapple & jerked corn

Vegan Challenge with Kushites Vegetable Cuisine ~ Day 9

"What we eat, we become; what we think, we manifest; what we feel, we create"

It's day 9 of my vegan challenge and i'm feeling very proud of myself. I think it is a great idea to do challenges daily or even once in a while test the strength of your mind and the control you have of it. One of my favourite quotes is from one from my favourite books The Master Key; "Control your mind, control your world." As a student of mental discipline this challenge is giving  me practice and i'm gaining more confidence in doing whatever i put my mind to. The fact that i have the opportunity to eat healthy and learn new ways to eat healthy is a great bonus!

My day started really rushed and I was consumed with work by late morning so I skipped breakfast. This is a very bad habit of mine that i'm working on. Sometimes i will go the whole day without eating depending on how busy my day is. Additionally, there are some days when I have no appetite at all. Something I need to work on because its not a healthy way to live.

Lunch

Rosemary, berries, lemon infused water

Vegan Challenge with Kushite's Vegetable Cuisine ~ Day 8

Every time you eat or drink, you are either feeding disease or fighting it ~ Unknown

I am constantly asked if i'm turning Rasta because I decided to give up meat. It's a very similar to the response to me going natural and deciding to loc my hair. Props to Rastafari for promoting a natural way of life but I'm not doing what I do because of them. I'm not Rasta. I'm actually not religious at all. We need to grow from this place where we isolate things that are good for us because we put labels on them. A lot of time the isolation make no sense but we are taught not to think so we can't even see our ignorance. Healthy eating is good for you, point blank....natural hair is also good for your mental and physical health. Simple logic.

Breakfast ~ Fruit Plate

Day 6 ~ Vegan Challenge

Kushites Vegetable Cuisine is closed on Mondays so today I had to figure out my vegan diet all on my own. I prepared breakfast and dinner on my own and I had lunch at a raw food restaurant called Mi Hungry.

Breakfast ~ Smoothie

Day 5 ~ 14-Day Vegan Challenge

Words are sweet, but they never take the place of food. ~Ibo Proverb

I started the 5th day of my vegan challenge with a green smoothie that I made myself. Green smoothies can be tricky when it comes to taste so i made sure to include some of my favourite fruits...banana, mango and pineapple. For the greens i used kale, callaloo and broccoli. No sugar added.

Man seeks to change the foods available in nature to suit his tastes, thereby putting an end to the very essence of life contained in them. ~ Sai Baba

Day 3 ~ Vegan Challenge with Kushites Vegetable Cuisine

The best of mankind is a farmer; the best food is fruit. ~ Ethiopian Proverb

Day 3 of my vegan journey was nothing short of great. I'm happy to be on this journey with Kushite's because i have a new appreciate for vegan food combined with some African culture.

Two things you should try to have first thing in the mornings... water and fruits and i did just that.

Breakfast ~ Fruit Basket

Day 2 ~ 14 Day Vegan Challenge with Kushite's Vegetable Cuisine

"Those who are at one with food are at one with life" ~ African proverb

This morning, on the second day of my vegan eating journey, I woke up craving mackerel run down. LOL!! Which is weird cuz I cant remember ever craving mackerel run down but I guess that truly reflects the power of the mind. So I re-channeled my thoughts to vegan ones and got myself ready for my first meal of the day... I suppose having no mackerel or coconut milk might have done me some good too ;).

Breakfast ~ Live Porridge made with local chocolate pod, coconut milk, dates, naseberry, oats and banana. Topped with almonds and sweet mint.

14- day vegan diet with Kushites Vegetable Cuisine ~ Day 1

"Food is the staff of life"

I have wanted for a long time to change my eating habits to more healthy ones and so my interest  was sparked by vegan/vegetarian diets.  I also felt compelled to stop eating animals after a Facebook friend posted a macabre image of dinosaur legs packaged like chicken. I was horrified!! I stopped eating chicken and other meat kinds for months. I chose to eat fish only and decided that i would eventually remove it from my diet. My setback to being vegan/vegetarian is that i dont know what to eat half the time. So until i have a better appreciation for the foods to eat as a vegan, fish is still on my grocery list. In the past few months i removed all dairy products from diet. I won't lie, i have cheated a bit...a random bun and cheese or a taste of Mom's rice & peas and chicken on Sunday. Still, I am learning. i haven't lost hope...The pyramids weren't built in a day!

So I decided to start a 14 day vegan challenge with Kushites Vegetable Cuisine. I will have no meat, no dairy, no fish!  Only natures gifts. Each day will consist of 3 meals provided by Kushites Vegetable Cuisine. I will be documenting my experience so stay tuned for updates!
